During your regular dental check-up, your dental team provides 3 services:
Diagnostic:
Rules out tooth decay with an oral exam and x-rays.
Looks for signs of periodontal (gum) disease and oral cancer.
Checks dental crowns, sealants, dental implants etc. for fit and wear.
Recommends the best time for orthodontic treatment, as needed.
Preventive:
Cleans and scales your teeth to remove tartar and stains
Polishes your teeth
May give fluoride treatment
May apply dental sealants
Educational:
Reviews tooth brushing and flossing techniques, as needed
Answers any questions and concerns you may have
Offers suggestions for cosmetic dentistry, like teeth whitening, when indicated
While your dental team checks and cleans your teeth, you can listen to a CD or watch the ceiling-mounted TV in your room.

1-2-3's of Good Dental Hygiene
It's as easy as 1-2-3.
You only have 1 set of permanent teeth. Take good care of them.
Brush and floss 2 times a day. See your dentist 2 times a year.
Replace your toothbrush every 3 months. Select a tooth brush with soft bristles. Electric toothbrushes make brushing easier.
